Federico da Montefeltro, received even a religious education in Mantova, at the Cà Zoiosa institute of Vittorino da Feltre; he was a man of faith as several acts show: in Urbino he confided in with and asked advice of Francesca of Ugolino from Casteldurante, prioress of the monastery of Saint Agata.
He sent her to Gubbio on the 25 th of November 1465 to reform the numerous monasteries scattered around its territory; everyday he used to listen to the Mass; he used to walk in procession and he was inflexible with people who “abased the name of God”; he venerated Saint Francis and Saint Ubaldo by intercession of whom he was granted with the male heir Guidubaldo, born the 24the of January 1471 in Gubbio, a city loved by Battista. He built churches and monasteries and he carried out many other things shown by the video. Even Battista, his deeply loved wife, was extremely religious; she was a greatly talented woman of noble mind.
Federico was also a great captain. He gained experiences against the army led by Gattamelata from Narni and Sigismondo Malatesta, becoming aware of his remarkable endowments as a warrior and as a captain. The video tells of the most important feats: the battle of Demoni, the trick that he used to reach Guidaccio Manfredi who had asked his help in 1440, the conquest of the Rocca of San Leo, that was thought to be impossible to conquer, in 1441, when he was only fourteen and the long fight against his great enemy Sigismondo Malatesta. Federico's success as a captain is also due to his loyalty, linked to his military ability and his great prudence. Thus, one can maintain that he won thanks to his mind as well as his strength. |
