The documentary is conceived as a Christian Pilgrimage to the “Eternal City” and is centred on the spiritual power that for two thousand years has enlivened this city, whose art was conceived as a means to meet God. Imperial and then Christian Rome have been a basis of Universal Civilization during the centuries; its Sacred Memories, the Vatican, Patriarchal Basilicas, Churches, and works of art are heritage of the whole of mankind.
Ever since Peter and his successors had been designated as heads of a new religious community, Rome has been invested by Christians with the role of the “New Jerusalem”, a city that is destined to last until the end of time. The Holy Year will show again the particular vocation that the Divine Providence has reserved for Rome : to be a point of reference for the cultural and spiritual resumption of our times. Rome, the “New Jerusalem”, is “Civitas dei”, City of God, that still today, in the New Millennium, speaks to everybody as capital of the spirit. Its message is an universal one that has lasted for two millenniums and is based on love, peace, freedom, brotherhood, and moral and civil progress.
